About Racquetball Tim
I really wish I could tell you that I was born with all of this incredible racquetball information and was an Open player at the age of 5. Unfortunately, that's just not true.
Being born in Canada, I grew up playing street hockey, baseball in the summer and a lot of indoor sports (to keep out of the cold). I played racquetball just once in highschool on a field trip and didn't pick up a racquet or even see a court until I was 24 years old and living in Las Vegas. That was 1998. I played for a few months and realized just how much I loved the sport. I also realized just how terrible I was playing it. So I decided to take some action.
I searched around for information on racquetball instruction, and came across the Fran Davis Racquetball Camps. The first available camp was in New Hampshire. So I told the wifey that I was going on a trip across the country (okay...so I begged and pleaded...whatever), and I flew a few thousand miles to my first racquetball camp. Since then, I've attended many many more of them (I seriously have lost track). The first three or four I was Fran's student, and ever since I've been Fran's assistant (for her Las Vegas camps). She teaches the camps with Jason Mannino (former #1 player, one of the best ever) and she really knows her stuff. She took me from a "D" level player to an Open player. She corrected my horrible swing mechanics and has increased my power and accuracy exponentially.
The reason this matters to you is that when you visit the tutorials section on my site, pretty much everything there has been taught to me by one of the best instructors ever, and one of the best players ever. I'm just relaying the information to you in hopes that it will give you the confidence to play more racquetball, and get your friends to play this awesome sport, as well as make you a better player.
Today, I'm an Ampro / IPRO certified instructor who gives frequent lessons to people who want to improve their game. I teach at Fran's racquetball camps when she comes to Vegas, and have been given an open invite to teach at all of her camps (can't travel right now though because my kids are so young and I raise them during the day). I play racquetball 2 or 3 times a week, some singles and a lot of doubles (which I absolutely love). And I consider myself a life-long student of the game. I'm always looking for some kind of edge with swing mechanics, court positioning, a new serve, new strategies, etc.
I hope I never stop learning, and never stop teaching.
